    Shipping Pre-Killed?
    Hey guys,

I was looking to buy some pre-killed feeders and found someone who ships out feeders just killed. Is that safe? The kill the feeders right before they ship them out.. so a day being dead.. is that bad? They're not frozen but I will freeze them as soon as they'd get to me house but first before I buy any I would like to know if this is safe...

It may be easier just to buy frozen because (just a guess) they might rot.

I wouldn't feed those to my snakes.

They should be okay if shipped overnight and with cool packs or dry ice, although I have no idea why they would ship them that way to begin with. Are they trying to save money by not freezing them first, or is there another reason?

It's just a user on reptileauctions. I think they might be doing it to save money but the way they're saying makes it seem that them coming to your door fresh and not frozen is a good thing. So, no they wouldnt add anything to freeze them. I don't think.. if so.. would cool packs help? If they didn't freeze them but kept them like refrigerated? It would only be over night.. you actually think they could rot like that. They are just killed and packaged and shipped right away im guessing....

I'm trying to breed my own rats right now but I won't have any that can be used to feed for a few months and need something to hold off on.. I was just curious about this guy and the pre-killing shipping thing... probably will end up just buying from the pet store but not sure.

I'd spend my money on Ratpro.com or Micedirect.com before I'd buy rats/mice that aren't shipped frozen to you.

Would you eat chicken that was just killed yesterday, and then shipped to you without being frozen first?

The logical answer would be no - too many risks. Basically, everyone here has told you that they would NOT do it.
