Screen In Tub (Frankenstein Tub)

lol yeah, i don't know about the frankenstein tub part. anyways, i've been having humidity issues (too high). worked out well because both are/were shedding, worked out well but now i have to worry about it being too high. i've decided (after poking enough holes with a knife) to possibly add a small screen to both my tub enclosures to help lower temps and screens have always been easy for me to work with in case the humidity gets too low. i was wondering who here has put a screen on part of their tub, if any, because i was reading up on cresties and it was recommended as a possible housing idea, seems like it would work well for bps. opinions? ideas?

You poke your holes with a knife? Wow....that sounds like the hard way! LOL How big are the holes? Because if they're really small, then maybe that's why you're not getting the airflow you need to control the humidity.


First off, I'd recommend getting a soldering iron. They don't cost much and they make relatively neat, perfectly sized holes very quickly and easily. (Just be sure you're outside with it...very fumey undertaking!)

I did cut the center of the top off of a big tub and replaced it with hardware cloth. (heavy duty wide-spaced wire mesh) I use mine as a transport tub for my critters when we move. (They all go in individual smaller tubs which get placed in the big ventilated tub....then the beardie lives in the big tub for a few days until his real home is set up again.) So it can certainly be done....but I don't know how well it would work out for a BP enclosure.

lol it is pretty tedious to do it with a knife, but i have the knife right next to the enclosures so whenever i'm bored during the day i'll add another hole and let the humidity and temps stabilize. the holes vary in size but most are about a little under a half inch in diameter. i've tried various ones to create airflow, even kept a small fan on to circulate the air manually. a good amount of holes in the top to release moisture but still having the issues, i found out the first time the humidity spiked was a couple days ago when eden flipped her bowl and soaked the newspaper, caught it pretty quick, emptied it out, got it dry, and put in fresh newspaper. still no drop in eden's. pretty sure probe isn't soaked or anything, it was far enough away from the spill. well i guess the good news is i don't need to mist, bad news is...this is a pain lol, nice little project to tweak to ideal but yeah, tedious.
