    macklott and ball python breeding?
    Me and my husband were talking about the carplots (I think thats what they are called) and other hybrids. I was wondering if anyone ever crossed a mackie and a ball and if so what would it look like? If it could or has been done, I wonder what the temperment would be like, considering that mackies can be very tempermental. Is this possible and if so what would be the risks in breeding the two?

    I personally dont agree with it and wouldnt try it as they come from different continents and have totally different habitats and needs , its what i call an unnatural hybrid as they would never meet in the wild so why do it? natural hybrids is a totally different thing all together thou - diamond x carpet pythons for example they do intermediate so i have no problem with this at all
    but this is only my opinion of this subject and not an attack on you personally as you were just wondering about it and are not actually doing it as we speak , but if you wanna try it its totally up to you :)

    p.s if this was to be successful theres a good chance any offspring would be sterile

    I have the means to do it, ie a mackie and a ball, but wasn't wanting to breed them. Just wondering about hybrids and what the outcome would have been lol. Thanks for the information though.

    It's an interesting idea (and my two favourite snake species as well!). My guess is you wouldn't get any offspring at all, let alone viable ones. These two are from different genera (Liasis and Python), so are probably too different. The "superball" hybrid of the P. curtus and P. regius is viable (remarkably!), but Roussis for example produced only 1 successful clutch out of 4 attempts.

    The hybrid discussion is an interesting one, and I for one would like to see it intelligently discussed without any flaming!

    Anyone have any Mackies in their gallery- never heard of them before;

    on the subject of hybrid topic: A hybrid topic with no flames? Wouldn't that open up a worm hole into another vortex or something?
