    Rack System
Hey guys, I stated in an earlier thread that I'm switching to tubs, and I wanted to know before I buy the stuff, if I should build my own rack. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get into breeding, so I might as well get a rack. I'm just not sure where to start. Are ther any sites that can explain how to build a quality rack? I'm a little confused on wiring the flexwatt and setting that part up. But if I were to buy a pre made rack, does anyone sell them for under 200?

check out www.herpenclosures.com they have 2 different series of racks. the "economy series" is in that price range. it is plug and play ,ready to go. the "elite series"

is made from solid material and made to last.

I second what Vaughn posted for HerpEnclosures. A+ customer service from Rich. the rack I got was a 4 high sub adult enclosure, it costed me $250 shipped, included tubs, included flexwatt, completely wired and ready to go. All I had to do was plug it into a thermostat.

Check out Matt at MGReptiles.com for thermostats and thermostat comparisons.

Nathanledet, did you get the economy series Adolescent/Adult Racks - Sterilite 1756 32qt. Box, if I may ask? Also, how do you like it? In your opinion, would it be able to house an adult female bp?? Thanks much!

Yes that's the one i got.

I can't honestly give you an answer because i don't have an adult right now. There is one that is also an economy that is a step up made for bigger adults. If you've got sub adults right now, go with the one that holds the 32 qt. tubs.

Rich says that most males will be able to live in this size enclosure as adults.

I would say when your girls start hitting around 2000+ grams, it would be time to upgrade, but that is a bit of an uneducated guess. I havn't had a female get that big in my enclosures.

I love the enclosure man. I was going to build one but after doing some browsing and seeing that the cost to build a rack was between $150 and 200 for the wood and flexwatt and all the other things you need to buy, It was much easier on me just to spend an extra $50 to have it pre built, no flexwatt wireing, etc. etc. and on top of that, I don't have the tools to build.

    Edit:
I must also add that 150-200 to build a custom rack also means you'll get about 4 or 5 times the amount of tubs...

If you've never seen a rack, it may be a good idea to buy a professionally built rack just to see how it's built...If you think you've got the skills to duplicate it, then you have something you can look at and go by.

I LOVE my HerpEnclosures rack - I plan to buy at least one more adult rack and one hatchling rack from him. I bought mine from the Elite series, as I want mine to last a lifetime! Worth the extra money to me!
