Another Lighting Question

As far as lighting/heating goes I was wondering if it's okay to just have a ceramic heater in the tank. Our 50 gallon is in our living room which gets an amazing amount of sunlight, but I was wondering if the ceramic heater is okay for night time to. Should I leave it on at night or get a night time bulb?

We usually got to bed well after it gets dark (1-3am) so I was worried about them not really getting the whole day and night thing. I obviouly turn the lights in the house off at night, but I was wondering if they need a certain amount of "night time" is that a lame question??? :oops:

Normal sunlight and "room light" are plenty ... as long as there is "night" at some point ... it doesn't have to be long, just there.

I use a ceramic for my 40gal breeder, which is in line of a window, and mine wake up and become active right around 9 every night, like clockwork if you will

I'm thinking about moving my BP to a basement area where there's no ambient lighting and no way, I should think, for him to tell day from night. Would I encounter any problems?

do you have any type of light source there (just like a room light to flip on in the morning and turn off at night)? i think it stresses out the animal when there is no way to tell a cycle but i believe worse than no light is a full time light so atleast that's not the problem. i believe it's more important when you are focusing on breeding too, such as making fake seasons by timing the light to dark ratio different as the year progresses. when i had mine in the basement with no windows i used a red light heat lamp (which messed up humidity) but then flipped on my room light in the morning and at night obviously just turned it off. i believe if the temps are kept and humidity is on then maybe just plugging in a lamp will do the trick.

I would suggest having somewhere around 12 hours of light and 12 dark per day, some people (like in the summer) will have 14 hours of light 10 hours of dark. Just to simulate natural day/night cycles.

While I have everyone on this page, how many ball pythons could you house together, right now I have my 2 in a 55 gallon. Shilo is 4 foot and Willow is 3 foot. I call them boy and girl but I have yet to get them sexed. :oops:
