News item: Mass hysteria in children after snake killed (ID snake in pic?)
Interesting article about the reaction of children in a school where a snake was killed...

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060908/..._children_dc_1

Check out the snake in the picture. Can someone ID the species?

Something from the Molurus group I would think
maybe even a python molurus molurus (Indian), maybe a light colored Burmese for a Ceylon.
I'm not sure, very pretty though.

Pretty far north, pretty light coloring and pretty small for an Indian python, don't you think?

Well it gets COOOOOLD in the Himalayas in winter - so I would figure the snake was brought to Nepal - and I figure it would more likely come from the south than farther East. But from what I can dig up on range Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and yes, Nepal are even cited as habitats :S My money is on Indian Rock.

I wish a snake being killed in the US would get as much attention and the same reaction from people. How did the school officials not know? Even I know that killing a snake would really upset people of that culture/religion.....and I am half way around the world. You would think since they are there.....they would have know better. I would be taking my kids out of that school....cause the school admin seems like a bunch of idiots with no concern for animals ;)
