    Am I doing this right?
Yay so I got my first enclosure in this evening and i spent the last 30 minutes setting it up. I hope i'm doing it right...we'll see.

    Here's the setup:

Of course, it's got 3 more tubs, I'm just trying to get the temps straightened out right now.

    Here's the thermostat:
    http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...Thermostat.jpg

The temp on the thermostat is set at 93 Degrees.

Next, I plugged in the flexwatt to the thermostat. The flexwatt does not just sit right on top of the shelf, it's acctually about a 1/8" down below the tub.

Next, I put the Thermostat probe on top of the tape. The probe is not secure yet. I will secure it once i know everything will work out right.

On the second shelf from the bottom, I put my acurite thermometer, and I used the self adhesive probe and just stuck it right on the bottom for the best possible read. I will probably end up putting another peice of tape on it for extra security so it won't get moved around, and then some substrate on top of it.

I'm letting the temps settle in. right now on the hot side, the thermometer is reading 89.2. If it doesn't go any higher, I assume I just need to bump the temp up on the thermostat right?

the cool side is reading 81.9 and my humidity is reading 59. 59% is just the ambient humidity inside my room, so I dunno how i'll get it down a little.

Anyways, please give some feedback on this. It's my first time setting up a rack, using Flexwatt, using a thermostat...I just want to make sure it's done right so I can avoid problems. Thanks!!

turn up the t-stat and your set.

to get the humidity down drill more holes in the tub.

I intend on putting holes in the enclosures...problem is, my ambient humidity is around 60% because i'm in Florida...I doubt putting holes in is going to help out very much.

looks good nate! the holes will lower humidity. i use 1/4" holes down the sides and back(i like clean fronts). those temps seem right on, once you get the substrate ,hide, snake in there and double check everything. i would put the other tubs in place too. in a 80+ deg. room i usually run my stats between 92-94.

    is that a herpenclosures rack?

That's almost exactly how I've got my racks set up, Nate... The only difference is I keep the thermometer completely mobile... There's a couple of reasons for this..

1.) Affixing the thermometer probe directly to the tub will create a cleaning disaster in the future. Maybe not the first time... but nice smooth tubs are what I like for cleaning purposes.

2.) I move my thermometer around quite a bit... I have four stacks of racks, and four thermometers. Every week on cleaning day, I move the thermometer to another tub in the stack it's in. I reset the min/max's on everything (in/out/humidity) and then leave the thermometer in the tub for 24 hours... check min/maxes, and then either move it again, or leave it until the next cleaning day, and check min/maxes again. Works really well for me...

If you don't put holes in the tub your enclosure humidity will be even higher than 60%.

60% humidity is fine, you shouldn't need to lower it. But do put holes in your tubs so you get some airflow. If the humidity in your snake room gets 70% and above then you might run a dehumidifier once in awhile to lower. ;)

Hey guys yes it is a herpenclosures rack. I got the economy Adolescent/Adult rack with 32qt tubs (1756)

He's also got some larger ones for larger adults:
