wow... 8 years!
Well, I have a wonderful thing to share with you all. It's our 8th anniversary today. My hubby and I are happier than we've ever been... every year being more in love than the year before.
Neither of us has ever been in a relationship longer than 3 years so this is huge for us both.
He was 49 and a bachleor. No kids... no major relationships.
I was 34 and a single mom of two kids...
He fell in love with me, then the kids and my kids fell in love with him.
We were legally married under willow trees beside a stream in a park on Sept 6th. Then on Sept 23rd we had a handfasting in a circle of cedar trees in the dark of night. Amazing experiences,... both of them.
Now we have three kids, a wonderful relationship and a great life together... I wouldn't want to be without him.
I love you babe... may we share many more years!

That's awesome, Aleesha!! I absolutely love hearing about couples who are not only deeply in love, but so happy together! Congrats to you and your hubby for being willing to do all the work it takes to be and stay happy!

Wow! Congrats! I love that you did the handfasting thing in the Cedar trees. That's exactly the kind of thing I would do, if I do get married. Sounds like a beautiful thing you have going there.

Re: wow... 8 years!
handfasting is a pagan tradition. much like a marriage. your hands are tied together (hence the name for it) and an athame is put to your heart (blunt ceremonial knife) and you are asked to speak your vows... and the god-goddess is asked to plunge the knife deep into your heart if you are not telling the truth.
if you wish to only be engaged for a year and a day (to try out the marriage) the ropes are loose (and then you live together for a year and a day)... if you wish to be joined in marriage, then the knots are tight.
ours were tight :)
interestingly enough... for me the legal ceremony was HUGE and i thought it would mean little to me (as i, at that time was the pagan) - on our wedding night my hubby did his initiation into wicca (asking the god and goddess to be in his life kinda like a baptism only he was alone doing this). our legal marriage was performed on the third eclipse of a triple eclipse. then our handfasting was performed on the equinox - both very powerful positive days for our astrological signs (as everything was done to bring balance - my mother is a high priestess and gifted astrologer and numerologist - so she was of great assistance in choosing when to wed)
the handfasting was the big one for my hubby. so it was interesting to us how the opposite of what we expected happened LOL
at both unions we (and my two children) were the only ones there (other than two witnesses at the legal ceremony) - the kids performed vows with dave (my hubby) and took him as their father and he took them as his children. they were given wedding bands. for me... that was so beautiful. seeing their little faces (11 and 4) staring into his face and telling him they love him forever.
we work hard on our relationship and it's such an honour to share my life with him. neither of us is perfect... we both have flaws... we dont expect each other to be more than we are but we each strive to do more, better... and i think that's part of why our relationship works so well.
ahhhhh i love him, what more can i say :wuv:

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family. The handfasting sounds very interesting and beautiful.
I've just celebrated 9 years of marriage, and it amazing how fast time has gone by.
