rabbits

hey all, would a 3ft ball easily take young rabbits? small ones, like pinky or fuzzies. my balls currently eationg hamsters but i want to switch him to a better food

Have you ever seen a baby rabbit when they are first born? Depending on the breed of the rabbit they can be about the size of a rat hopper to a small to medium rat.Some snakes refuse to eat anything other the rats or mice or in your case hamsters.I myself do not know anyone that feeds there ball pythons rabbits even the bigger ball pythons.Now boas, burms and other bigger snakes love the bunnies:P .

feeding rabbits is completely unnecessary. you need to consider that ball pythons are imprint feeders and if you switch to rabbits you'll have to find young rabbits every week for the next 20+ years.

dont worry about nutrition. they get everything they need from rats or mice.

theres no rats or mice here, and hamsters are stupid, id like to breed rabbots. if i can switch from hamster to rabbit cant i switch from rabbit to rat if i ever move?

Maybe yes maybe no.Some ball pythons get stuck on one food type and thats it.Who cares if the hamsters are stupid,would you prefer it be smart and kill your snake:irkd: .The breeding of rabbits is one smelly project:grabbed: .Unless you can get your snake to eat frozen thawed rabbits you will only get a couple feedings out of a litter of rabbits.Rabbits grow very fast,thats why they are everywhere in the wild.What do you plan on doing with the ones that are to large for your snake to eat?? If you think the price of a hamster a week to feed your snake is expensive, your in for a shock for what it costs to feed rabbits.I am not being crude here but a rabbit is constantly eating and the other end is always dumping:P .See if you can get a price of a bag of rabbit food and you decide if its worth the try.

hamsters are stupid cuz they smell and teh ones here are usually infertile. rabbit poo is great for teh garden and i can feed him f/t rabbits. im guessing star would switch over pretty well cuz if theres the smell of hamsters hell attack anything thats warm, so that could be warmed up rabbit scented ith a hamster. if i do use rabbits id like to get a small breed. you know it sux actually cuz i saw mice for sale here ONCE and i was going to get a pair but they ahd no males!

If you think hamsters smell your in for a treat when you smell some rabbit crap:grabbed: .:bolt: :bolt:

rabbit food may be cheaper here, at the animal pazars you can buy lots of foods in bulk

they shouldnt smell if tehyre changed often, and cant they be kept outside anyway?

I have no idea if a BP that's been eating hamsters would switch to baby rabbits or not. Some might be incredibly stubborn about it...and some could care less. If you can get your hands on a few frozen rabbit pinks, you could try and see before you jumped into the expense of breeding them. Rabbits take up a lot more space for breeding purposes than wee little hamsters. But I'm with you...I'd much rather enjoy cute little breeder bunnies than mess wtih stinky ol' hamsters. (I'm not much of a hamster fan!)


The only drawback that comes to mind (if your snake would switch and you're willing to go to all that effort to breed rabbits) is a nutritional issue of feeding exclusively newborn prey. And I'm not at all certain its a real issue. But I've heard that pinks and fuzzies are not as "complete" as adult prey items because their bones have not fully calcified and they are way more fatty tissue than muscle. I just don't know how valid a concern that really is.
