I've been offered a supposed IMG male ball python for some crested geckos. I really haven't heard much about IMG, but from what I saw on RDR his look pretty cool. What do you guys think.

Are those pics of the IMG that you would be trading for?

I don't think IMG is a proven trait as of yet---correct me if I'm wrong---so you'd be hanging it out there. Plus, this guy doesn't look very IMG to me. It looks like he's in the middle of a shed... he's also got some scarring along his back. I don't know... I'd be iffy about it.

    Any other opinions?

Looks to me like you'd be getting a normal male with some nasty scarring. Fair trade? Up to you.

also ask for a whole body picture. if he only sent you those pictures he might be hiding some other severe scarring or hiding the rest of the scales because they look completely normal. (im sorry if that didnt make sense:P )

Tanner, I would be a bit leary. If I remember correctly, IMG is not a proven genetic trait.

Furthermore, the pics you presented looks like it is a normal with severe scarring from an injury.

    Edit: found this:
    http://www.grazianireptiles.com/mutations.htm

At the bottom it says :

    Unproven Mutations

These are ball python mutations that have not been proven genetic at this time. However, some of these variations may prove to be genetic after more breeding research is done.

It stands for Increasing Melanin Gene, which always seemed strange to me as they seem to get lighter overall, not darker. I guess the darker places get darker, and the lighter places get lighter, or so it seems. As far as that guy goes Tanner, I would pass on him. The last thing you want is a scarred-up wild caught male.
