biology teacher = snake killer
If you could see me I would be shaking my head. The snake had a bad shed last week and there are still large patches of skin left on the snake, and she didn't even bother to clean out the shedded skin in the tank. Then today just a wombo rat in their for her to eat.The snake is clearly stressed and refused to take the rat so she left it in there the whole day witch is like 8 hours. And before i left school i checked back to see if it had eaten and the rat was rearing up looking like it was getting ready to box.I want to give her advice but what would that sound like,an adult taking advice from a 15yr old kid? :disbelief
Re: biology teacher = snake killer
leave an annonymous note:
"Dear teacher. I feel that you do not properly care for your snake. Instead of continuing with neglect, please visit ball-pythons.net and read the forums for suggestions"
Not exactly that...but just something to let her know that a person who is more educated on the subject cares for the snake more than she does. You could also go as far as saying that if she doesn't want it....you'll adopt it.
Re: biology teacher = snake killer
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea,i just may do that. Thanks!
Re: biology teacher = snake killer
Does she know you're a ball python fanatic?
Re: biology teacher = snake killer
You can start with, "My friend that has alot of snakes left a rat in the tank once, and it gave the snake a bad bite, had to go to the vet.... HUNDREDS of dollars"!!! Bye the way, when MY SNAKES don't have a clean sheds..... etc...
I think that it's very nice that you are worried about offending her.... Alot of 15 yr. olds these days,:sigh2: LOL! Good luck!;)

If she is a good teacher she will listen to you and consider your thoughts/ideas.
Just be prepared to have sites, reptile magazines, books, and other materials to back your claims and points of improper care up. She may be skeptical of trying a message board site for info. So you may want to have other sources to back up your claims. A lot of older teachers are more than skeptical of electronic sources...they are paranoid of them!
At first, you may not want to use the word "improper" either.
Say something like Mrs. X I think we could take better care of our class snake doing the following....the reason I think this is because I've read this book, went to these sites. Explain the rationale behind your ideas. Something like...Ball Pythons need hides because they are secretive
If you are positive in your criticism and you have a much better chance of changing her mind! :handshake
If she is a a big jerk about it even after you try to approach the topic with grace and tact, then you tired your best and she might just be a jerk....
Every field, profession, culture, place, etc. has some amount of jerks.....dont get overly frustrated-the one good thing about jerks is that they teach us how not to be jerks....get through her class and move on to greener pastures!
:community
As a younger teacher I deal with similar issues with older teachers......you'll deal with the similiar issues for quite some time as a young adult as well.
Good luck!:)
