    Question... Surinam/Guyana diffrence!?!?
    Hello,

As some may know, I've got a Guyana Red Tail Boa.... I think it was Cassandra that I asked a few weeks ago about the diffrence between Guyana & Surinam RTBoas. She was kind enough to post a great article by an import collector of both. He explained that there is no genetic diffrence between the two because of the "border" only being on a map. You can just walk/slither across....... Sorry, I ramble- This is what I'm getting at... I would eventually like to pair my female Guyanan up with a nice male.... As I "shop around" is a "Surinam" a proper mate as well as a Guyanan!?!?!? And, my female being a L.ong T.erm C.aptive- Do I need to find a captive bred male? Do they get the "job" done better than an import male!?!?

These are just a FEW thing I wonder about as I sit in traffic! lol!

    Thanks! Laura

You can certainly breed a Suri to your Guyanan.. just be sure to sell the babies as such. Many times the more purplish looking snakes are sold as Guyanans and the more pink/reds as Suris.

BCC can be sexually mature at a smaller size than 7'.. in fact 5' males can be mature, as well as 6' females. Age is important too. 2-3 years for females and a bit less for males is a good guide. Snakes should not be thin, but overweight animals are poor breeders. Obesity is much more common in captive bred animals than many people realise.

CBB is a much better bet. There are many, many CBB suris and guyanans, there is no reason to risk it with a WC male.

Size isn't a really important factor with breeding. A six foot female boa can breed just as good and have just as many healthy babies as a 8 foot one. The most important thing is age. BCC females shouldn't be breed before they are 4 years old. The males shouldn't be breed before they are 2 years old.

BCI can breed at 2-3 years for females and as early as 18 months for males.

Like Shelby said, you can breed your Guyanan to a Suri, but why? If you're not going for a morph cross, I wouldn't mix them up. The border between the two locales isn't a real border-True, however there is a difference in the two...slight, but it's there. Guyanan's are more purplish and have a different peak design than Suri's, which are more of a vibrant red and tan. I would look for a sharp male guyanan for your girl. Suri's are easier to find, but the babes of pure Guyanan's would sell better for you.

Yep.. what Jim said. You'll have an easier time selling pure locality boas than crosses. And he's right about 3-4 years being better age for females too.

I think Guyana would have been a silly name for the Cruise/Holmes baby while Suri seems to work for the invisible little tyke! Rock on!

The following is an interesting article between the differences of Surinam and Guyana: http://www.boa-constrictors.com/com/...namGuyanaE.htm

For me, if and when I plan on breeding Carmen, I'll look for a Suri or Guyana that has the same coloring as Carmen or has coloring I want to mix with Carmen's, whether the snake be called Suri or Guyana...=)
