Found this guy in my front yard, and decided some of yall might like to see our grasshoppers.
We call them Georgia Thumpers around here.

Sweet, I'm a big locust fan myself, we get those a lot.

That's a pretty impressive grasshopper....and photo as well! Can't believe he'd just sit on your hand like that!

AZ and TX have some Horselobber Grasshoppes that put that guy to shame and give me the heebie jeebies!!!!

Hey can you get me a pic of those?? I thought these were pretty much the largest ones in the US.
I bring EVERYTHING into my house! LOL. I'll probaly turn him loose tomorrow. Tonight he is eating a cherry.
They are actually pretty placid, and once you put them somewhere they don't jump off to escape much. I really like them, and if people keep tarantulas, grasshoppers are acceptable too. LOL. The babies are black with a brillant yellow stripe down the back. Really cool, and I had HORDES this spring, but this is the first that I have seen in my yard grown.

In all seriousness though, wicked hopper! Try them lightly breaded & pan-seared with garlic, white wine & butter.
