Housing an adult

Alright so if I go the rubbermaid route, then I will probably build a rack later on. What is suitable for an adult male/female enclosure? Before I sold my babies last year, i would always remember seeing my snake roaming around the cages at night. If i get a rubbermaid that is no larger than a foot high, they won't be able to stretch upwards...that's ok?

What about length? Is it really vital that a bp be able to stretch out? Since I will be starting out with only 2 or 3 snakes, I will be able to spend time with them out of the enclosure, letting them crawl around and stuff.

The sterilite 41 qt. "under the bed" ones are supposed to be optimal for adult BPs.

I use those and they ROCK, the Iris CB-70s are also good from whats ive heard.

I hear CB-70s are better because they are easier to clean.

Yeah, sterilites and rubbermaids are a pain to clean. Too many ridges and bumps on the bottom.

i'm curious about this as well and no-one seemed to address that part of the post. i am using tanks and my pythons seem to like to stretch up and move around quite a lot during about an hour or so at dawn and dusk....

Ball Pythons don't need that much space abve the ground. 6 inches is more than enough ;)

I am building my rack around Sterilite 41-Qt. tubs. I like the size; not as huge and 'lugubrious" as the wheeled underbed containers, but longer than the puny 20-something ones.
Go look up lugubrious; you know you wanna!

I set up a 40qt with UTH set on top of particle board, with the cover on it and have been having some trouble getting the cool side temp up. It is like 6.5x25x16.5 (i think) and i am haveing a heck of a time warming that side up. I even tried to crank the hot side up as high as possible (no worries no snakes in there) and it still hoverd around 76 cool side while the hot side was up to like 130 ish. so make sure you set up the tank and play with it for a good long time before puttin anything in there, i ve tried with 2 types of bedding and now with just an empty tub with no luck on that cool side temp. So good luck!!

P.S. How well does your new rack hold a gradient??

What is the room temperature? I've heard the room needs to be at or above 78 for the cool side to be in the 80s range without another piece of flexwatt under it. Also, the particle board, if that is the board that has all those holes on it to put pegs in to hang things up, may be letting too much heat escape if there is a particle board under the tub as well.
