breeding: cage rotation?

I was wondering; is it better to rotate several females into one males' cage for breeding, or would it be better to move the male to each female's cage? It wold be so much easier for me to be able to have the male in a larger cage for breeding season and rotate the girls into there; would this be OK, breeder types? :)

i would rotate the male, main reason is less stress on the females, they have enough to do. the females are the ones you want to be secure and not stressed during breeding season. i'm sure you could do it the other way, but most people i know rotate males. they don't need a large area to breed.

Jen,what i do is place the male with a female for 3 days,then place him back in his enclosure for three days to rest.Then he goes with a differant female for three days,i continue this until i see them ignoring each other.Once the female has been bred enough she will refuse any attempts from him and then i remove him permanant.I have been told if you place the females in his cage he will not search for them since he will only smell his smells.

That is exactly when I did. I bounced the male between two females with a few days between to let him recoupe.

Both females dropped eggs (7 and 6) and all hatched, 100% success rate. The last one from the 6 egg clutch actually came out just moments ago.

This year I will have a pastel male of size and a male albino. I should have 5 or 6 females up to size this breeding season.. Not this season, but next season my female pastel will be up to size (super pastel? woohoo), plus I got an '06 het albino female, '06 pastel female, and '06 albino female on the way for future breeding. :)

Joe, when you are using one male to multiple females, how much time do you give him to himself, so he can "recover"?

Do you do like a 3 day cycle again? 3 days with female A, 3 days with female B, 3 days off?

I place him with female number 1 for three days,then he gets 3 days alone.Then after his rest he goes with female 2 for 3 days then 3 days by himself and i do offer him food if he wants it during the 3 days by himself.I keep this cycle up till i notice them ignoring each other.This is my clue the female should be gravid now.

Sounds like a good plan! See, this year I only have 2 breedable females so it won't be that tough I guess.
