Q for those of you who keep savannas..
At what temps do you think your savannas thrive the best?

optimal temperature are 135+ basking and 75-80 cool side. that said, its all about giving the monitor the choice to choose what temperature he wants to be in. only he knows what temperature he can thrive in.;)

i have kept one for quite a whial and the best temps are a basking spot of 120 a warm side of 100 and a hot side of no less than 80. you hit 79 you have problems. so my advice is to keep the cool side around 85. this is what i have read, been told , and seen work. the most resent check up at the vet went awesome. the vet said that it was one of the healthyst monitors she has seen i a whial.

i didnt get a chance to congrat you on the pretty sav you got. he is almost a pastell he is so colorfull. LOL i love mine he comes out of his cage and climbs the glass when he sees me walk by then i pick him up and he just sits in my hand with no strougle. he loves having his neck scratched. best of luck with you sav. there are a few others on here who keep them with success who know there stuff.

Same - I don't like it going under 80 cool side either. My basking temps sometimes go up to 130 and it's not unknown for some major monitor keepers to get them up to 145.

now how have you seen that when you hit 79 you start to have problems? what was your monitors reaction to the 1 degree temperature change?

85 is, IMO, a little too warm for a cool side. they need a wide variety of temperatures to choose from.
