I reccomend you wait until after he sheds. The reason is you could cause him to be stressed since he is unable to see clearly. It will not hurt him to miss a meal. How long have you had him?
Re: feeding before a shed
It depends on what you're feeding him. If you have to throw out the rat if he doesn't eat, then just wait a week until after he finishes shedding. About half of mine will eat while in shed, and the other half ignore their meal.
Re: feeding before a shed
i've had him for about a month with three very successful feedings
Re: feeding before a shed
Yesterday was our feeding day and Cleo, who is in full blue, happily munched her rat down (once she found it)...last weekend, Carmen was in full blue. "Just put the rattie in front of my nose please!"
But they are babies and always seem eager to eat!

A few of mine eat while in shed
Re: feeding before a shed
I don't feed while in shed. I don't have any scientific proof or data, but it just seems logical to me that, in the pricess of shedding, where they have to move around/get that skin off/bend a lot, it would be easier if they hadn't just taken a large meal in. I spray to get the humidity up, put plastic wrap over the cage lids, and leave them be until shed time is over. (with the obvious exceptions of any needed cage-cleaning or waterbowl refilling.)
