my new ball python

i recently got my ball python... he ate on the second day and i've only had him since last wednesday. however he won't come out of his little half log thing. the only time he came out was when he ate, and he just dragged the little thing under the log.

his eyes are blue so i think he may be about to shed? i don't see any of the other about-to-shed symptoms, but i can't tell because i havn't once seen him leave that log.

should i be worried?

Check out the site's caresheet. But yes, blue is pre-shedding time. Boost your cage humidity to 70% from now until he gives you a nice snakey skin present. :)


Balls are shy and are nocturnal so you probably won't see him very much.

My Freddie, when she's in shed, LIVES in the humid hide....doesn't eat, doesn't come out. After she sheds then she'll cruise and climb.

Just keep the tub/tank humid, but not wet! and things should go well for him.

I see nothing to be worried about.Let him get used to his new home.You should not bother him for a week or two after you first bring him home.You can stress him out and then he could refuse to eat.Relax you will have plenty of time to handle him.

Yup he should he shedding soon. Up the humidty in his tank and just leave him be!

It's very typical to see a big decrease in activity while snakes are shedding. I can usually tell when they are due to shed, by that alone. You'll see him back to normal once he sheds. :sweeet:

It's perfectly normal for your BP to hide a lot while shedding. In fact most of them spend a huge amount of their day/night in their hides whether they are in shed or not. As long as your temps and humidity are correct and you are providing a hide on each side of the enclosure, the snake knows what to do.
