Random Hissing...

Hi, I'm new to these forums, but I have a question and this seemed like a good place to ask.

My adult ball python just started hissing randomly. It's not constant, only once every 20-40 minutes, so I don't think it's a respritory infection, and it's very loud (I can hear it on the other side of the room, even when my music was playing). She's curled up in her hide, and she seems fine and doing her usual sleeping-then looking outside thing, and I don't think that anything's bothering her (do snakes dream? o.O). What's causing this? What should I do?


I looked everywhere for info on this and couldn't find anything, so any help at all would be apprecieated! :oops:

It may be the music? Is her tank on the same fixture as your speakers? The vibrations from the bass in your music may disturb her sleep rhythms. You may not think the bass is excessive but put your ear down on the table she is on and times the sound by like ten. You will get an idea of how "loud" it really is because they are much more sensitive to vibrations then sound. Just a guess.

I'd say if you can hear it over the music then it is probably upsetting it. The vibrations can be similar to large animals walking by.

lol... well, I did jokingly suggest to a friend that she just didn't like my choice of music. She's not on the same tabletop, and the bass is down pretty far, but I'll try seeing if I can turn it all the way off or just turn it down in general. She's never complained before (I've had her 6 years, and we've been in this particular room arrangement for a year and half), but maybe she's just tired and cranky today. If it keeps up I'll just turn it off, and if she's still upset I'll post for more info. Thanks!

She is more than likely feeling the bass in the tank. The tank acts like a speaker box.
very lightly touch the tank the next time the music is on and see if you can feel it. even if you can't she might still be able to. Hope this helps.
