    Best place for first job?
Well, in a few months I'm going to get a job so I can save up for a car when I'm ready to drive.(Also to make payments on a mojave and spider) LOL.

What is the best place to get a first job? I narrowed it down to these 3.

PETSmart (Not bad, they take VERY good care of their herps and they are only a 2 minute walk away.)

Blockbuster (The people there are pretty cool and blockbuster is right behind my house.)

Taco Bell (Not too far away from here.)

You would get discounts on supplies and could offer your help to people getting into snaking.

Stay away from fast food. Not worth it.

petsmart sounds like a good deal.

you could learn a lot and save some bucks on supplies for your pets.

    good luck

I believe you have to be 16 to work at petsmart. When you are 14 the only job you can really get her in MY city is mcdonalds.

    16 w/permit McD's here in Oregon.

I worked Mickey D's & in 4 yrs was an asst mgr---my unofficial designation was timecard manager. I did everything a 2nd asst mgr did, but still got paid for the OT.

It was a good starter job when I had to have 40 hrs/week right off the bat. Most McD's restaurants are fair income. I just happened to work for an owner that would make Scrooge look like Bill Gates. When I was interviewing for the head manager job for a different corporation it was pointed out even more strongly how cheap the owner I was working for, actually was.

It's not a bad starter job and has flexible hours so U can go to school too.

If the pay and hours were the same, and I had to choose NOW in my life, I'd go w/the PetsMart tho'.....but when I HAD to have a FT job, McD's was the only option. It did what I needed it to do.....help pay the rent and living expenses so I didn't have to move back in w/my mom.

I think your best advantage is, being able to walk to work! When I had my first jobs, I had to either take a cab or bum rides off people; that was such a pain. But you're really fortunate to live by places!
I would apply to both petsmart and blockbuster; see who will pay you more and be most flexible with their hours for you, and go with that one.

Being only 14, your best bet is to get a job with a smaller business that has the time to work with you and your time problems (school). Also in most states you can not work past 6pm until you are over 16. The really important thing is, be WILLING TO WORK!!!!!! and not stand around and collect a paycheck. It is called a job because you perform WORK for a paycheck. If you show a good work ethic than folks will notice you and reward you. It is much easier to move on to that next job if you have a reference from your employer.

I know a lot of the independant pet stores in our area use teenagers to help out. (cleaning cages, tanks, stocking & so on.....)

I'd vote for petsmart or blockbuster.

I've done my time behind the fast food counter. It wasn't the greatest job, but it was a job. At least at the other two jobs, you won't go home smelling like grease and trying to get the grease stains out of your work clothes.
