    Coughing/hissing
I don't know if this would be the correct place to ask this but i also own a florida kingsnake and i just recently got him from a friend, today i fed her for the first time and after i fed her she started to open her mouth and hiss. this lasted for roughly 5 minutes and then stopped. does this sound like some type of respitory sickness or does it sound like a normal expelling of air? i dont know what is normal with the snake because i just got him. any input would be greatly appreciated.

I went ahead and moved this to the King/Milksnakes forum. ;)

A respiratory infection will sound rumbly. It's more of a wheeze. (think bad chest cold) A hiss is definitely different. In any case, I would keep a close eye on him and if you hear anything more, then a trip to the vet might be in order. I hope it's nothing.

the guy i got him from said that its normal for the snake to do that but is it normal for all kingsnakes or just normal for mine? he also makes some weird kind of burpy sounds at times...?

From what I have read all over this forum it sounds like an RI. Vet is the next step. G'luck and I hope all goes well.

A vet visit should cost from 30-60 dollars. It definately sounds like RI to me.
