Re: equalizing the humidity
Did you try moving the water source toward the middle or over onto the hot end?
That light will do a solid job of leeching the humidity under it whenever it is on.

I can try moving the water dish to the middle. I have a fairly large dish for him so that he can soak when he is shedding if he wants. I'm afraid that if I move the dish over to the hot side, it will not give me room for him there also. I will move it to the middle and see what happens tonight. Also, I think I am going to switch to astro turf in his tank. Right now I am using reptibark and i have about 2 inches in there. If I go to astro turf, I may be able to just use the UTH for the warm side and eliminate the light altogether. Hmmm....

Astroturf will be a major hassle to clean. Would newspaper work for you?

Don't really like newspaper... my wife said the tank needs to be presentable! :) In the past, I have used astroturf and just pulled out the piece when it got soiled and put a new one in. Then cleaned the old piece and kept it in reserve for the next mess. I went with the reptibark this time (just now getting back into my snake hobby) because I think it looks nice in the glass tank. I am thinking of either going to turf or putting less reptibark in next time I change it. Does anyone use this stuff? And if so, how deep do you lay it on. I believe this may be contributing to some of the issues I have heating with my UTH alone.
Re: equalizing the humidity
Try moving the water bowl over to the hot end and ditch any lamps you have. Get an extra UTH instead. That should solve some of the issues you are having. Read the following thread to gleen more insight. Good luck.
