I thought maybe you guy's could help me? I'm still debating whether I should buy a 100% hetalbino female or 100%hetpied male? Let me give you my idea's ,first I'm thinking I can produce my own het's for albino with my male it would just take longer to produce my own albino's. Also I want a pied and the het's are my only way of reaching that goal.So I guess my main question here is what would you guy's do? Daytona here I come!!!

Do you have a het male of either kind?

Ask yourself, which snake do you like better, pied or albino, and get a pair of hets, usually people toss the males in for practically free. Nm just saw your profile :) I would go with a het albino female.

    Just a suggestion...

You mention that if you picked up a female het. Albino, you would breed her to your male and produce your own hets. I'm assuming that your male is a normal? If so, breeding him to her would produce 50% possible hets. You would then have to pick a male offspring, raise him up, and breed him back to the 100% Het. Albino dam and hope that you picked a het. male. So this would be a long term project and you may never produce an Albino from it (if luck was not in favor and you raised up a possible het. male that didn't prove out).

If you decide to get a het. Albino female, you might as well get a 1.1 pair of het. Albinos. It won't cost you much more to purchase a male het. Albino to go with your female het. and that way, you could eventually breed the pair together and definitely produce Albinos as well as 66% possible hets (instead of 50%).

Then you could also save back the 66% possible het. females that you produced and breed them back to the 100% Het. Albino sire to try and prove them out.

Lone female het. Albinos are approximately $450 to $600 each and you can pick up a 1.1 pair for around $550 to $700. So you would only be paying an extra $100 or so to get a male 100% het. with a 100% het. female.

Anyways, just some food for thought...

    Thanks,
    Celia

Sorry Celia I should of been more especific my male is an albino. What I was asking is would you produce more albino's first or would you start a new project?

    Re: Dielmma
Ahhh...in that case I would definitely say to get a het. Albino female since you already have an Albino male. You can produce Albinos and either sell them and buy Pieds or trade them for Pieds. It's always good to complete or beef up a project that you are already invested in before investing in a new project. You don't want to spread yourself out too thin too early.

    Re: Dielmma
I would take Celia's advice. Building a solid project is better than spreading yourself too much. Then, once you are producing Albinos, I bet you could trade them for all kind of stuff. Albinos will be a solid seller for years to come.
