Frustration

Now I know why everyone says to set up the viv/tub BEFORE the snake arrives. I realize now that I need another UTH. My house is kept cool (not my idea) at 67-69F. I'm using a sterlite tub and could not get the cool side past 75F, not good. So, my question is should I just get the small UTH (for the 5 gal tanks) or get another 10-20 gal size? I have a 15qt tub and measured the bottom so, I know two big ones will fit. I'm just afraid that will skyrocket the humidity, because the bottom would be all heat mat (UTH). I'm opting to get a small one for cool and use bigger for warm. I have a T-stat (cheap one) that I will use for the cool side and plan to order a Johnson or Ranco to use on the warm side. ( I had to cave and order the expensive T-stat LOL), it's an investment well worth it IMO. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have 2-3 weeks before my BP arrives.

heating a setup to 80 cool / 90 hot end will be a challenge in a 67-69 deg. room! you will need good heat sources(uth) and stats to keep them under control. you'll just have to experiment and see what works the best, that is a cold room for reptiles, imo.

I know, but it's out of my control. I may just shut off (close) the a/c vents in the room and see if that helps any.

Is it possible to close off a vent, or utilize a space heater?

I'll try that. So, do you think that two UTH's on the tub would be too much? Melt it? Even if I use thermostats?

if setup properly the thermostats will prevent them from getting too hot and keep the temps constant.

It should be possible to maintain temps with two UTHs, that are controlled with separate thermostats. Maintaining the ambient temps will be a bit of a struggle. I think it will be one of those things you have to fidget with.

That should work for you. Keep them in a closed bedroom and close the vent(s) in that room so the A/C doesn't cool the room. It should be much easier to maintain temps that way...that's what we've done with our snakes since the beginning. BUT because we live in Texas and it's summer now, we've had to open the vent again and open the door to keep the room cooler...it's too hot here!

Be glad you keep the house at 69 degrees...we can't afford to keep it anything less than 82 degrees, because even set at 82 our electricity bill is $230!!! :O
