Egg Question

When a female Ball lays her eggs in her cage, what amount of time do you have to get them into the incubator before they go bad?

You don't "have to" put them in the incubator at all ... if conditions are right, and the eggs are meant to hatch, the female will remain on the eggs and they won't go bad. :sweeet:

I was considering the whole maternal incubation thing also... I feel bad, I wasn't prepared for this seeing as I just got out of a moving transition...

Any tips on maternal incubation? Please? :)

Okay I will lay the whole situation out for you...

I have her in a 29 gallon aquarium with a under-tank heater on one side. Her water bowl is toward the front of the tank, on the side with heat. The substrate she is on is cypress mulch. She is wrapped around her eggs (not sure how many) right in the middle of the tank, half on the heat and half off. I have the screen lid covered to keep the humidity up a bit, and have been keeping it that way for some time. I am not sure how warm the basking side is or the cool side either. I know that the temperature fluctuates in that room depending on the time of day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I purchased a nice incubator today from my workplace to incubate the eggs in. I also read an article on maternal incubation by Bob Clark. It seems that the environment in the cage is suitable for maternal incubation according to the article. I have decided to put two eggs in the incubator and leave two with the female since this will be my first time with either method.

You have a clutch of four eggs?

If you take two of the eggs out of a females clutch, there's a good chance that she'll ditch the remaining two.

I was afraid of that. And upon looking closer tonight I found there are 5.

I'd do one or the other , I would'nt separate the egg's. I just would'nt take that chance Especialy on your first clutch.
