tick?

i have come to believe that my bp has two ticks one very close to the eye that has turned white also another one close to the tail. how do i come about getting rid of them ive tried reptile relief. i was wondering how would i also come about finding a good reptile vet in my area

you wouldnt need to take it to the vet for ticks. ticks can easily be removed. just get some tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the head as you can get and just pluck him off. you can also try giving him a warm, slightly soapy bath to see if they'll let go.

well if its that close to the eye, id definitely be cautious. pulling it off can rip skin.

The best way that I've found for removing ticks (more so on my son from playing in the woods than on a snake) is to cover them in vasoline ... they will have to back out in order to breath and then you can grab them. After that, make sure to treat the area they were attached with neosporin and treat the enclosure with provent -a- mite as instructed on the can.

hey thats a good idea. i get ticks sometimes when i go herpin. im gonna have to try that next time.

We were always taught to use a red hot sharp needle to pierce the butt end of the tick. It will let loose instinctively and back out as well as quickly die. Then the wash and that spray that burnt like crazy that my parents swore healed everything! LOL Not that I'd recommend the above for a wiggly snake. I think Adam's idea is the best and likely easiest way to deal with a tick.

We always got the hot needle for ticks when we were kids too Jo ... The Vaseline trick came from my sons pediatrician and it works like a champ! :sweeet:
