    All Balls hets for Pastel????
I heard somewhere that all balls are het for pastel? I find it hard to believe that if I breed my two ball pythons, I will get a pastel. Is that why I never hear about Pastel hets?

the reason you dont see pastel hets is because pastel is a co-dominant mutation. pastels are the hets of super pastels. check this out: http://ballpythons.ca/genetics.html

Lol, if you bred two normals and got pastels, then where do all the normals come from. Surely someone misunderstood that pastels are like the heterozygus form of super pastels (the homozygus). You can breed normals to pastels and get pastels but not normals to normals with the same results.
(thanks internet and nerd for clearing that up! huzzah!) :carrot:

I think they got that idea because if you breed a pastel to a nomal you will get pastels in your clutch. If pastel was a recessive trait, then yeah that would technically make all normals het for pastel... but it isn't, so that's an impossible scenario.

Theres no such thing as a "Het Pastel"

Pastel, as said, Is a Co-Dominent trait. (Meaning it is or it isnt.)

When A pastel is bred to a normal, you are going to get 1/2 and 1/2 in the clutch.

But on the other hand, When two Pastels are bred, you get Pastels, Super Pastels, and Normals all in the same clutch...

    Nuff said!

No, I was saying that Pastel could be considered the 'Het' form of a Super Pastel. Prehaps that was the confusion?

Sure there is. The definition for "Heterozygous" is having two different alleles for a single trait. In the case of a pastel, that would be a super pastel.
