That's what happened to most of mine. You should know right away as the ones that ate their babies usually did pretty soon after giving birth and they didn't bother to make a nest or keep them together.

Re: My first litter
Congrats! I've been pretty lucky - I've purchased four pregnant mice when picking up feeders and they've all been great mommas. The smallest litter I had was 7 and the largest was 14. Interestingly enough, after the initial head count, I leave them all alone and I always end up with one less than the initial count the next time I check (about a week later I do another head count).
I'm assuming the moms are culling the weakest ones out.
After these last two moms' litters are fed off, I'm seriously considering picking up a couple of nice young female rats and raise them for a few months and then get them a mate and try my hand at rat breeding.

Good for you :) (and your mousey momma.)
I am also toying with the idea of mouse breeding again; I have only breeder rats now but there IS a spare 10g tank kickin' around; and my friend is always bugging me to so she can ell them at her store..

Congrats.. i know it sucks waiting.
Just dont peek to much.. You have to give them privacy. If you dont they will for sure eat them up. I had to find out the hard way... good luck.

I have had great luck.. at first i didnt but now they are cranking em out. I really just had to leave em alone. I also darkened one end of my breeding bins with black spray paint so they would feel more private.. What ever it was worked. I have mice comin out of my ears.
I also always pull my males once the first baby is there and I keep all the moms together. ( some keep the males in there, but I do not let the males stay there.)
I dont think they stink as bad as everyone claims. I really havnt noticed a difference with them.
Good luck and give it a try.

Re: My first litter
Yeah, Thanks...Actually i went to check them today and 3 where not inside the nest she built inside an iglo hide she has and they were apperntly dead. I just took them out and replaced the water, food and left them alone. Ill give her a couple of days before i check her again. I just hope none are dead inside the nest. I saw some moving around and i hear the squeeks so im assuming they are alive.

Squeaks and squirming are good signs. :gj: Hopefully the remaining will be just fine.
