are females rare or something? why do people talk about having to spend $500 on a breedable female ball?

i just found out julius is actually a female the other day!

Breedable females are very valuable to breeders that know what to do with them. I've turned down offers of over $1,000 each for adult breedable female ball pythons ... not worth it to me.
