    Sale/Shipping question
The last few weeks I've been really busy with all of my animals, and honestly I want to focus more on my leopard gecko breeding, and I'm more interested in them than my ball pythons. I still love my snakes, but I don't want to start pushing them to the side when I start collecting more leos this season so I think the best thing for me to do is to cut down on my number of snakes in my collection from 5. My main issue is selling them, locally there isn't a huge market for snakes, so I've come here to sell them if I can...

However I'm not fedex certified, What are my options in terms of other shipping methods?

As soon as I figure out the shipping issue I'll post my ads with pictures and weights, as I know someone here will probably be able to give more attention to them then I've been able to.

No one else allows reptiles to be shipped thru them.Only fedex and delta dash.Do not allow someone to get you to ship snakes thru the post office as it is a FEDERAL FELONY!!!

Theres got to be a decent market in Minnesota, advertise through the local herp society, and the local papers. Driving a couple hours to meet someone is always easier generally to shipping.

I'm aware of the process on FedEx certification, and I would rather not wait a month or two, or three to sell them. I'd never ship them with USPS because I've heard horror stories, and frankly the USPS is unreliable. However I was asking the question because when I purchased two of my snakes over the internet they used UPS to ship to me just fine...I thought UPS didn't certify either? I've heard that I can ship leos with UPS overnight no problem...so I could with snakes too?

    Greenmonkey,

I've advertised for some of my leos through the local papers, and local classifieds through different credit unions and businesses in town...and zero response. Another ad I've seen in the local paper for two straight months selling snakes ( I know the guy) and he hasn't sold anything.

I'm in SE Minnesota, I know there's more of a reptile market in the Minneapolis/St. Paul MN area, but I'd rather not have to travel 2 hours, with work I'm way to busy to travel. With the Minnesota Herp Society (located in Minneapolis), the only thing they could help me with is giving them up for adoption...I'd like to get a little something back out of them from the TLC/money I've put in, and the peace of mind knowing they are going to a good home.

The people shipping thru UPS are able to because they were allready approved before UPS changed there rules.UPS will not certify any new accounts at this time for no reasons. What do you have for sell? The reason i am asking is if someone is interested in something and is allready approved to ship snakes. They can allow you to use there accounts to ship your snakes to them.Otherwise you have to wait for the fedex proccess.

Actually, Fedex and Delta are the only way to ship snakes. Lizards can be shipped via UPS and DHL. Their legal packets includes some reptiles, but not snakes. So if you are just shipping non-venomous lizards, they would be fine.

Either way, I would go with Fedex. I have heard horror stories about DHL and UPS can't find my house ;) Fedex certification is pretty quick too....took me about 4 weeks.

Yea i know about delta dash but in order for me to ship or recieve from them i have to drive three hours to Chicago.Dhl has two idiots here that are scared of reptiles this includes lizards and they told me they no longer ship any reptiles.I have a freind that uses unashippers that uses DHL for shipping reptiles and they will not certify you unless you ship hundreds of shipments a month.I attempted to ship my freind a snake and DHL sissys threw a hissy fit and refused my shipment. So FEDEX all the way with me!!!

I recieved my BRB via DHL and they knew fully well what was inside as the package was clearly marked. I've also shipped through DHL and the animals always arrive safe and sound.

I've recieved snakes through FedEx and UPS as well as Delta. Delta is safer IMO, but a pain in the ass to drive all the way to Austin to pick anything up.

Even though your received your snake through DHL doesn't mean its legal or should be recommended to anyone else. As Daniel mentioned, FedEx and Delta Dash, both through pre certification processes and Northwest Airlines Cargo (and possibly a couple other airlines) are the only legal ways to ship snakes. Apparently some UPS shippers were given the ok to continue to ship snakes when UPS changed their policies but they are not allowing any new shippers.
