Sweet! That is alot of pinks-fuzzies!
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
I feed him pinks as a treat, he could eat 30 pinks at a time!! those were weanlings from rodent pro
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
i think monitors eating is sooo cool. my ackie grabs his crickets, thrashes them around, and presses them into the ground to kill them before he gulps them down. same with mouce pinkies but it takes a little longer. have you noticed that when they swallow its a lot like a snake swallowing?
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
Ya, they do resemble snakes a bit when they eat. Just most snakes aren't as vigorus when they eat

Great video, Jake. I love the feeding videos of savs - it's amazing how fast the stuff goes down as opposed to feeding a BP that can take up to half an hour.
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
lol The first one was really fast. The otherday I made him a mix of tuna, rats, and moistened dog food. He like it a lot I think but then again, he never complains about food.
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
Dog food?? I give mine chicken sometimes. He wouldn't refuse food - he's a sav ;) I think they'd probably even eat burger if you gave it them - and no, I'm not advising anyone to feed their sav burgers
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
its best to stick to whole prey items, not just say ground turkey, or dog food. whole prey has all the nutrients the monitor needs instead of just a lot of one.
Re: Feeding Video!! Savannahs love to eat!
I've seen lots of savs that are fed on whole prey their whole life from the time they can take a pinky. They are far more over weight, live shorter periods over all, and seem to be angry at the world. Varied diet is the best thing you can feed. I have fed all of the following and he never refused them
scrambled eggs Roaches
hard boiled eggs earth worms
quail Meal worms
chick Wax worms
mice Various feeder roaches
rats "dud" leo eggs(no body flame for this please)
rabbit meat turkey meat
canned tuna Chicken
crickets and I'm sure there are more
grass hoppers
My point is that no one food is going to have all the vitamins that your monitor is going to need. Variety is the key IMO and since savs will eat most any kind of meat, I take advantage of it for ease of feeding and over all happy monitor. Just my oppinion on it
