    rack heating
At the moment I have a few different cages running individual heating pads under each one.

I am about to build a rack to make housing all my snakes a bit easier.

My problem is that I seem to be getting quite a difference in temperatures between each heating pad even though they are the same type and connected to the same thermostat.

What would the reason be for this?

Would it be better to run just one long piece of flexwatt in an S along the rack heating each shelf connected to one thermostat.

Individual thermostats just don't seem economical

imo, the flexwatt routered through the rack does a great job! i prefer belly heat to back heat, it is more efficient and you don't have to set you stats as high to get the temps you need. a rack and a proportional stat is gold.

What Vaughn said is right on! Go with belly heat.

If I'm understanding you right, you have multiple heating pads for different cages, all hooked up to a single t-stat...and getting different temps in each....right? A cause for this could be different cage sizes and/or types...or the locations of the cages. A cage catching a draft would read differently than one more sheltered or one getting more sunlight from a window or something.

If you have identical containers in a rack (which, by definition puts them all in the same location in the room) makes it much easier to maintain a closer range of temps with a single t-stat. I'm not sure it matters if you snake one long piece along the rack, or plug in multiple pieces under each cage.

I have one piece of flexwatt that is snaked through. It's standard on the Boaphile racks. :D
