Stray kitty

I was heading out today to go to the gym and as I made my way to my car I noticed a tiny black cat. She was making her way across the road..I did my "tich tich tich here kitty kitty" and she came over to me. I gave her a chin scratch and noticed how thin she was. I ran into the house and grabbed a can of food. (reserved for Mikey but he understood). I called her over to our front lawn kind of in between our house and the nieghboors. Once I put it down she began to eat, I then noticed for a very tiny cat she had a very round belly. So I figure her to be pregnant. (or full of gas).

This is my first encounter with a stray cat since i was a kid. I put some dry food out in the same spot hoping she will make her way to me again. once she does I think im going to set up a nice little hut for her and hope she stays around till she delivers. I dont think its a good Idea i take her in since she is very skinny and stinky. I dont want anything she has to get passed on to my cat. I only have one room to keep her seperate from mike but i have other animals in there. (oh and an evil boyfriend who hates animals except khan/lola)

Any advice if she does come around again?
anyone encounter something like this before?

Ps...I named her Celeste (she is all black with very nice green eyes)

in my community we have places who take in cats and make them well and then adopt them out... no cat is ever put down... just loved.

perhaps find an organization in your area and let them are for her... get her some vet care etc.

Call around and try to find a cat rescue and phone them. They may even have a live, humane trap that you could entice her into with food (can of salmon works really well) and deliver her into their safe hands for care and rehoming.

round belly could also be worms :(

ive donated some cat food/litter/bedding and stuff like that to a place that does take in cats with a no kill policy.


But a part of me wants to keep her...:(

aww thats terrible...I hope she isnt infested to the point her belly swells. I just feel terrible for this black beauty!

Any outdoor cat you would want to treat for that anyway. Thin + round belly is a big sign from my experience, as the worms will reproduce and take more and more of the nutrients, or something (its been a while).

If you plan on keeping her the first step is a vet, or the humane society + adoption, they might be able to get a lot of the basic treatements done for the adoption fee.

If you decided to keep her I'd take her straight from your yard, into a cat carrier and right to the vet rather than chance your cats being exposed to her (and she's likely got a lovely load of fleas going on...most strays do). Once she's had her shots, dewormed, flea treated and checked up then she could come home with you.

my plan is to do as everyone recommended. although i wanna keep her i know i cant. So Im going to take her to the no kill shelter and have them help her out.


I dont have the money to take her to the vet myself.

Where in Wisconsin are you? I'm from Madison and know a few no-kill rescues/shelters.
