children's python question

Hi,
Does anyone have a children's python snake?
I have a small baby one it eats about 1 pinkie every 3 weeks, has not
shed and now stop eating. It's hard to tell if it is going to shed, it
does look like it's eyes are covered over. So i'm hoping a shed is near.
The question is are these ones hard to get to eat?
I have a heck of a time getting it to eat.
It does look good and seems healthy. It's the first python I had and really love this little one, i'm worried about it.

I don't know about the Children's, but my baby sand boa stops eating every time she's blue. Felix my Stimson's gets really pi$$y when he goes to shed, but then he's bitten me most every time just for being onery. ;)


If your snake is that small, like Oreo, it's probably blue and doesn't want to eat.

It's colors are very faded so I hope it will shed soon. Thanks,

Only handled a few childrens but like most snakes, there belly usually appears pinkish when they start the shed. I would try and get him some live pinks and see if you can get him to eat every week. If hes that young every 7-10 days would be a good feeding schedule. Hope this helps

:) hello, i breed and own quite a few childrens pythons so i can probably help you.
has it shed at all? most hatchling childrens shed within a week and i am yet to see a hatchling that has eaten before its first ever shed. wait to see if your childrens sheds and then feed it a pinkie every 5-7 days.

It has shed 2 weeks ago and has started eaten. It is doing great now.

Kind of off topic, but here goes. Every book I've read that contained children's python information has stated that their maximum size is 3 feet. Is this true? My MALE is 3' 8''.

I have seen one once back in a Hemet pet store in California that was 3 1/2 feet, the guy said it was a male and said the males do get a bit bigger. It was a beautiful snake wish I had the money to buy it back then. They were asking $140 for it.

i have a breeder female that is 3 foot 2 inch and that is a maximom. 90% of "childrens pythons" in the pet trade are actually childrens x spotted pythons(antaresia childreni x antaresia maculosa) spotteds can grow up 2 5 feet so 3 foot 8 inch would not be uncommon for a childrens x spotted hybrid.

You know what...that sounds right because I originally thought that it was a spotted python due to the color and the head shape. It makes sense that the two species were bred together and that is why my male is so big and getting bigger! he just shed again;) .
