Wow
Just had to share my excitement!
Most of you know the troubles I've had with my daughter's BP, Trey, not eating. I'm trying him on another live crawler today, but my hopes aren't real high. We'll see....if I have to keep tube feeding him, no problem.
I'm not sure how many noticed that I have now gotten my OWN baby, a sweet little un-named yet female. I posted a pic of her in the Pictures area.
Anyway, since I was at the pet store picking up Trey a mousie, I decided to go ahead and get my new girl one as well, since I was there. I've only had her 5 days, but I thought I would go ahead and give it a go.
Man! I dropped that mouse in her enclosure, and she immediately poked her nose out of her hide. She watched that mouse for maybe 15 seconds and BAM! Having never experienced a feeding before, I was soooo excited to finally get to see it happen.
I am very well schooled now on the difference between pet store critters and something gotten from a good breeder!

Re: Wow
Tube feeding can be really stressful on a snake..Have you had Trey checked for parasites? If he was a pet store BP, he is likely a WC. Im glad your newest family member ate for you..
I've been able to tell the difference in all my WC and CB rescues, its like night and day usually :)
Good luck getting to the bottom of Trey's anorexia! :)

Haha, isn't it neat? I can't believe how excited I am about this.

I wish I could report good news on him, but no. I put them in the paper bag together and Trey did everything he could to keep that mouse away from him. Thanks for your encouragement, though. It's really nice to know someone is there with advice when I need it.

It really IS like night and day. When I was at the pet store picking up mice today, I checked out the snake area. They had a new batch of baby bp's in, every bit as skinny as Trey. The girl I got from a breeder is a fat little piggy compared to them. Knowing what I do now, I would never have purchased one there!
Trey was checked for parasites, but I'm really starting to wonder if he shouldn't be checked again. I would go ahead and give him a dewormer, but I wouldn't even begin to know how to figure out dosing for such a small one like him.
I wonder if the vet is working tomorrow, haha.

Did you close up the bag and leave it in a dark room for a couple hours? Was the mouse a fuzzy?

Yes, I did, and yes it's a fuzzy, I think. I'm still not sure what all the lingo means! It has hair, but it's eyes aren't open quite yet. I actually fed the little thing with Trey's Ensure last night, and since it surprised me by surviving the night, again this morning. I was thinking if I could keep it alive for a week, it could be my females meal next feeding. I don't know if that's possible or not! haha
When I checked on Trey and the mouse in the bag, he was curled up as tightly as he could get, and the mouse kept trying to snuggle with him. Poor Trey was just trying to get away from the mouse. He was not a happy snake!
Dunno what to do with this guy.
