Faunaclassifieds...
Hey guys. I posted my geckos for sale on Fauna, hoping to get a little more exposure for them. Anyway, I received an email this morning from a woman telling me that people were gossiping that I was selling a genetically defected gecko as a breeder. They are, of course, talking about Pinky:

I bought Pinky from Wendy (wendyhoo9) here on BP.net. She assured me that the tail kinking was a calcium defect and I trust her judgement. I'm a little upset that people are making up stories about me. I was wondering if anyone had heard any of this or seen the thread? I would like to post and let them know that this isn't genetic, merely a defect because he didn't get enough calcium when he was a baby... and that the previous owner can attest to that.
If it's going to cause this much trouble, I'll take the little bugger down and keep him. But I don't want my good name smeared because of something like this. Let me know if you've heard anything. Thanks!

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
I don't know anything about the defects of cresties, sorry. I'm sorry that some are smearing your rep because of it though. If I can help in any way, on that forum...PM me and I will. Did you ever take em to the vet? I would and then you'd know for sure and could post it on that forum as well.

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
i personally haven't seen anything about pinky but i don't tend to follow other forums very closely if at all. while i personally can be fairly confident that his tail kinking was caused by a deficiency when he was young, others unfortunately may not be so trusting or quick to see it that way, especially not knowing you or wendy.
admittedly, his tail looks bad and the indention at the base of his spine very bad. while it probably doesn't affect him in any way it does affect people that don't understand how it happened. there really is no way that you can prove that it isn't genetic--it's basically just your word. i think it may not be wise for you to advertise him as a breeder because of this. you may want to advertise him as a pet only gecko, in order to avoid some of the negative feedback, although people being how they are, you may still get some of the same negativity.

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
It's not a problem taking him down. I guess I just figured a lot of people would see the same thing you saw in this little guy (Wendy told me that she had talked to you about his defects).
Well, you learn something everyday.
Still, if anyone's seen the postings, let me know... I'd still like to tell them my side and tell them that I'm taking him off the list.

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
unfortunately people go a little nuts over things like this. you may want to advertise him privately or just to friends (if you have any that are into geckos). i'm sorry that you have run into trouble over cute little pinky. :sigh2:

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
p.s. i moved this to the rhac forum so that it will be here for future reference in case someone is looking for info on calcium deficiency, kinked tails, etc. in cresteds. :)

Awesome... thanks for all your help! Hopefully I can get this figured out... and I'll probably just keep the little bugger, now. :sweeet:

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
All right, so the woman emailed me back and I figured out which forum it was. They were actually talking about it on chat, so there isn't a hard thread to reply to. No biggie... I went ahead and posted on both Fauna and the others that I was keeping him. I let them know that if they had any questions or what not, they could contact me.
Thanks again guys.

Re: Faunaclassifieds...
As useful as Fauna can be for making inquiries and keeping up on industry news.......it really is bad for honest people like you when all the teenage girls on fauna make a huge dramafest about something so simple as this.
