    Changing Tides
Just a little update on Trey.

I'm happy to report that I have the temps and humidity completely under control at this point, thanks to all the info I have gotten here. He also has two identical hides, newspaper and paper towels as substrate, and he still has his tree which he still really likes. hehe

His cloaca looks completely healed to me. The only problem I see there is that there seems to be some sort of bony mass right on top of it, which I can't explain. I googled python skeletons, and I see nothing in the pics online to account for this. I will be consulting the vet about it!

He definitely looks a lot better, no more signs of dehydration at all. I'm very pleased with that.
Only other problem to report is that tonight, I gave him his shot and changed his water and newspaper out. When I put him back in his tank, he climbed his tree, and I noticed that he has developed a bit of a wobbly head! :(
I took him back out and went ahead and tube fed him, even though it made for the third time this week. The vet said to do it twice a week, but my instincts just screamed at me to go ahead with it tonight.

He's a fighter, though, and I'm half Irish, so if sheer determination is enough, he will make it through this!

It sounds like you are doing a great job with him. Keep up the good work. As far as the bony mass above his cloaca, it could possibly be a kink in his spine. However, it may not pose a problem as long as he eats and deficates with no problems. The only other "problem" this may cause is during sheds, he may need a little help in getting the shed off, if it is a kink. Let the vet take a look at it next time trey is in for a visit. As always, keep us updated.

I am glad to see that he is doing better; I give you a lot of credit for taking care of the poor guy and giving him a chance.

Tim, that could be it. And hey, if the worst thing to come out of this is that Trey needs help with shedding, I will be thrilled!

Jen, thanks so much! I attribute most of it to this site, though. There is so much conflicting information out on the web, I was very confused about what was right or incorrect until landing here. Everyone genuinely tries to help, and the information is concise and easy to understand. Glad I found you all!

Thanks, Trey! Since you have the same name as my daughter's snake, I'll just mention that he's named after Trey Parker. She's a teen, and in love with him.

Little guy is up to 51g tonight, started at 48g.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Joe! I guess you can tell I would do anything to make sure this snake is ok. I'm lucky enough to work from home, so I check his temps and humidity several times a day, haha.
The sad thing is, he's not even MY snake. He's my daughter's. She actually works at our local zoo and is a certified snake handler there.

I'm thinking in a couple of months, after I get him settled in good and eating, I am going to want one of my own.

Me, too, Neil! He looks really great tonight, I can tell he's gaining weight. I'll really have to get some new pics up soon.
