    Laying upside down.
I checked on the new female today and when I opened her tub I noticed she was laying on her back, just the bottom half was upside down. I read where this can mean they are gravid and it can also happen from big meals but she hasnt eaten for me. When I bought her I was told she had locked up with a male. Does this mean shes gravid?

I would not use laying upside down as a sign that one of my snakes is gravid. I see it often, in both males and females. Ovulation would be a sign that she is gravid. ;)

I am with Adam totally. Here is a pic of Juliet upside down, she is a 3 year old virgin so no babies expected. Belly up originally but when I started with the flash she flipped back to normal. Love stuff like this don't you.

Sorry for the crappy pic, the flash ate it up because it was so dark in the room.

I have had them lay upside down while gravid or just absorbing a large meal. Not saying it means she is gravid though.Maybe her top side needed a little tan lol.

thanks for the info everyone, The only other time I have seen one of my BPs laying upside down was when my bigger girl did it before she laid her clutch. Ill look for an ovulation and if she does ill post pics.:carouse:

The only thing about laying upside down, and not ovulating, would be as to "stargazing". As a way of IBD, but thats not usualy found in pythons. You say you just got her?

Incorrect. When a snake "star gazes" it's upright, body extended, head and neck up off of the ground pointing at the sky.

That is incorrect as well. With the exception of a few "rumors", IBD is found exclusively in pythons and boas.

I am not trying to be rude here, where did you get this false information? I have a female ball that lies belly up just about all the time after eating a large meal and i gaurentee she does not have IBD.

Shes probably just warming the belly up, or trying to cool it down...Mine did it occasionally as well. Now if you walk in and the snake is completely upside down on her back, then its a problem.
I believe IBD is something that normally kills BPs pretty fast, in boids, it can lie dormant..If it was IBD, you would likely have additional obvious symptoms.

    Ok, Maybe I was wrong.

But I had a ball python, that I got from a friend and it did that "stargazing" and it was dead in two days.

I WAS NOT saying the snake HAD IBD, I was just saying what I know about a snake that lays upside down.

And I was told that IBD maily harbours in Boas, and can be easily contracted to Pythons.
