Feeding my python wild field mice?

Does anyone know the safety issues of feeding my python wild mice?
I mean we get small house mice that are just the right size for him and weve managed to catch quite a few of them and kept them all alive.
Im not quite sure of what diseases mice carry, I live in washington state.

Ive got a few still in a cage waiting to have whatever done to them, my snakes shedding so Ive kinda left him alone for the last few days and ive had these little mice to deal with.

I decided to wait untill I figured out if theres any dangers in it before i actually fed them to my snake.

Any help would be nice.

Just to be safe. I would feed him mice from pet stores.

Yeah I figured that to but it would save me alot money on buying them every few days.

It wouldn't save you money on your vet bills. What's a buck a week? Less if your snake eats F/T.

I second this comment.Please do not take this as i am being rude.If you try to save money by cutting the snakes feeding bill the one that suffers is your snake.What if you feed your snake a mouse that just ate decon before you caught it.Guess what your snake dies.Please buy or breed your own snake safe rodents.

Parasites are a big problem Also there is no telling what these mice have gotten into. Possible slow acting toxins that could be deadly to your snake. Consider fertilizers and such that they come into contact with. Weed killers etc.

Worms, fleas, mites, DeCon, other poisons from treated feed grains that the mouse may have eaten. Barn cats often get worms from mice.


Baaaaad idea. Save your rodent pet foods for some pet store mice and breed your own, knock 'em in the head or gas 'em and use the wild ones for fertilizer in your flower beds. Feeding to your pet is just asking for trouble.

I gotta agree, it's SO not worth all the risks of possible illness from wild mice. The healthier the prey the healthier the snake.

Definitely a bad idea. Rodent poison can take a couple days to kill a mouse/rat. It might have ingested poison and you could have no idea.
