plastic bin questions

ok so I got my new baby girl (and she is BEAUTIFUL) and I have her and Nag set up in plastic bins. I must not be doing something right cause Nag will only sleep under the newspaper on the cool side, and Nagaina is only sleeping on the cool side as well, but at least she is using her hide.

I have a uth on one side of the bins, water bowl, 2 hides, thermostat, etc, but it seems as though I'm missing something. is it possible they are just overheating if they stay on the warm side? neither has eaten in about a week and a half as well.

could it be that this crazy minnesota weather is making them uncomfortable?

What are your temperatures on each side?

Some snakes just like to hang out on the cool side. If your temperatures are correct, I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah they each have their own bin. got scared with some of the horror stories about snakes dieing and stuff.

temps on the hot side are between 92 and 95 and the cool side is about 85ish. humidity is ok too...heck in MN you get humidity out the wazoo in summertime, so no worries there lol

and I did get my babies to feed. I went to the local reptile supply place and got a live mousie for Nagaina, and a young rat for Nag. first time Nag has eaten a rat pup but he scarfed it right down no problem. so I'm thinking I'm going to start making a weekly trip to the pet store and just continue to feed them live prey cause it seems they both like it better than frozen.

other than that they seem to be doing well so, just let them be unless somethng serious starts to happen? (knock on wood)

Well, considering your temps are spot on and they're feeding, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Remember too that they are likely moving back and forth as they need to and you're likely missing it as they are nocturnal. As long as you provide a proper thermogradient with the temps spot on, hides they will use, etc. then they'll know what to do.

Wendy, my female does the same thing.

She sleeps under her newspaper on the cool side. I thought my temps were to hot but they read out fine, and she does move around to the warm end at night.
Although last night after I fed her (which is the first time i fed her in her tub and not the feeder cage) she came out and stayed in her shoe box hide.

Seems like your being a responisble owner and doing everything right.

another question though....when I had Nag in the glass tank, he was always toasty warm when I picked him up, and now he feels...well....cold. cold is too strong...maybe chilly? is that part normal as well?

Perfectly normal. It just depends on where they've been hanging out.
