has taken to the water

we have noticed for the past 2 days that our ball has been soaking a lot in his water dish. i am not sure, but this behaviour seems to be conincident with his development of mites (i am not sure if i am just paranoid). any ideas why this is so? nothing much has changed in his tank. could it be the change in weather/climate? pretty strange...

From what I've read on our forum it's probably the mite's. After you get rid of the mite's he'll go back to his routine.

Seems to be pretty common with snakes that have mites but it's always a good idea to check your temps and humidity are within proper ranges anytime they act out of their normal pattern. Probably the mites though.

It is most probably from his mites. He is soakin gso long to drown the little buggers.

Here is what i would do, and in some cases all should do.

Treat your snake for the mites in the fashion you choose to. Treat the snakes tank and area around the tank. Completely sterilize everything and use paper as substrate (makes seeing the buggies easier) and continue to do that every week until you find no trace of them.

For your snake warm water with a drop of dish soap will help kill the little bugs as it doesnt allow for air pockets to form around them.

Then you can lightly cover your snake in a mixture of 1/4 cup veg oil with 3 drops of tea tree oil ( you can then save the extra for the next time) the oil clogs the exoskeleton of the mites and thus they cant breath and die, and the tea tree oil is a natrual antiseptic and will treat the bites from the mites.
