    Warming up prey items?
How does everyone warm up there frozen mice/rats?
I tried using boiling water but Chloe was less than interested.

I pull the food out of the freezer and let it thaw out on a paper plate (I left it in the bag once and it got all soggy). Then I take it in the bathroom, wipe down the sink and place the mouse in it. I get the hairdryer out and go to town. When the thing feels warm to the touch to me, it is ready. Just don't put the end of the hairdryer in the sink all the way because the ambient heat around blowing around in the sink bowl heats the dryer up and it will overheat and almost all of them have an auto shut off switch. Then you have to wait for it to cool down to room temp to reset.

    Hey,

I just got my hands on a pair of lovely 14-year old pythons. I offered a rat thawed in hot water to the male and he ignored it. I've looked through several care sheets and on this forum; many people suggest using a blow dryer to heat up the rat after it's defrosted.

Unfortunately, I don't have a blow dryer and I won't be able to get one soon (I'm at a research station doing field work). Any other suggestions? I was thinking of leaving the rat on the radiator, or perhaps just holding it in my hands for a while (followed by a thorough wash & perfuming before feeding, of course).

    Perfuming?

All of my frozens get thawed and warmed the same way. in a pan in the sink with hot tap water (boiling water will cook the insides of the rat. you dont want that). I have to refill with hot water a few times over a half hour or so and they are ready. I always feed the rodents wet. The snakes don't seem to mind and they get some more hydration which is always good..

Perfumin my hands, not the rat...just to make sure he doesn't make a mistake about which warm bit is the prey.
