Rat bite through a thick leather glove
    Dang rat :) sharp teeth.

I washed the bite out as usual, but when I told a friend he asked me if I got a tetinis shot? Hrm never thought about that. opinions?

You should get a tetunus shot every 10 years anyhow...so it couldn't hurt. If the rat broke your skin through the leather, there's no telling what might have gotten into the wound, either from the rat's mouth or from the leather itself.

I think I had a tetunus shot about 7 years ago :) probably time to renew it anyway

I wouldn't recommend you break the law..... BUT...

I've been told that if you inform the medical people working on you that you were bitten by an animal, specifically a PET, they send animal control out to take the animal away.

Could be urban legend, but thought it was worth mention.

Definitely an urban legend. I wouldn't say something like that has NEVER happened because I know people can be super-silly-stinkers sometimes and take drastic actions over extraordinarly minor and common occurances. Personally, I'd much rather be totally honest about how the wound occurred, in case there is something about it a doctor needs to know that I'm not aware of.

Tetanus is definitely a good thing to be up to date on.. I just got mine. I couldn't believe how it didn't hurt.. lol I hadn't had a shot in so long that I couldn't even remember.

We brought someone to the hospital b/c of a rat bite. We told them it was from a rat, but no one took the animal away. I think that's only when its a wild animal, like a raccoon or a squirrel b/c of possible rabies.

I wouldn't have any reptiles left! (assuming the bites were bad enough for a hosptial visit, which has been and will be never)
