Unhappy BP

Well on Sunday I went to feed Halen and I had her mouse in the tongs. Well I thought she was in a different hide, and she came out of the hide I wasn't expecting her in. She struck the tongs, and backed off and looked at me as if I were defending myself because she struck the tongs. Its been 48 hours later since she's eaten and I went to go handle her, and she curled up and hissed at me. She's never hissed at me before. So my question is, should I give her a few more days? Should I handle her like normal but where a glove?

Personally, I'd just leave her alone for a couple days.

That's what I sorta figured. I got the gloves ready just incase haha.

my snakes been a jerk lately, just seems like he doesnt want us around. He does his usual night prowl around the tank and perches himself nicely but whenever we come around hejerks his head close to his body and gets defensive.

we also just let him be.

Could it have anything to do with the time of year??? Our BP seemed a bit more friendly in autumn and winter. This is the first year I've ever had a snake though.

I'm still guessing it had to do with the feeding tongs. She took it as me protecting myself, even though I obviously wasnt trying to protect myself. I'll just wait it out, and put on the gloves (literally) :D

From what I just read....sounds like she was just trying to get that mouse from you. Your reaction to it is probably what freaked her out. Try again next week...but try instead not removing any hides and just waiting for her to come out on her own. They like to hunt from their hides...makes them feel safer.

I didnt remove any hides. She was in 1 hide, and when I went to put the mouse in her tank, she moved to another hide without me knowing. I was trying to make it so the mouse is on one end, and her on the other. So she'd have to hunt for her food. I never remove her hides when it's feeding time 'cause I know she it's best for her to ambush her prey.

Well, I handled Halen tonight. No hissing, biting (yay) but she sorta curled up into a ball! ... Imagine that huh? ;) I'm very relieved she's calmed down. I picked her up slowly, and said in a gentle low voice, "It's ok ... I'm not gonna hurt ya!". Thanks for all the help with this issue :D

i'm so glad to hear she's calmed down for ya. i know dexter gets moody sometimes and i just leave him alone. :)
