burmese?

I was considering getting a burmese this women in my town has for sale.
its over 8 months old but the size of a hatchling about 13 inches long and as skinny as a garder snake. ( i dunno the real history behind this poor guy)It needs a good home someone who know how to care for burmese the right way.

Dan and I decided not to get it since we dont have the room and we cant agree on how to house it. he wants a 30 gallon glass viv and I want a sterlalite set up. neither of us wants to keep it for long since we have never are not confident enough to handel as snake that can get that big.

I dunno what would be a good thing to do,
buy it and then fed ex it to someone else who wants it...
it has a better chance with me doing the shipping than with this family.

if anyone is interested shoot me a line. if anyone has an idea of what i should do, shoot me a line. I mean come on..its a flippen burmese for petes-sake!

Did you actually SEE it? I don't think even hatchlings are only 13 inches long! Certainly there is no way an 8 month old burm is that tiny. I know it's really easy to look at a snake an seriously underestimate how long it really is....but to describe an 8-month old burm as a garter snake....well....something isn't right with that picture.

i did go look at it. and it was super small. she said 8 months. maybe 20 inches at the most.

i dont believe this lady one bit. she said it eats one every two months. and her husband said once every two weeks. I smell bs!

I could tell its been neglected, he had a water dish that was actually a water dish for hermit crabs and were using a heat rock. no hides, no branches. nada!

Yeah, there's something NOT RIGHT about that. My 6 month old reticulated pythons are at about 4 foot now. There's no way that a burm could be 13 inches at 8 months, even if it were horribly underfed. Personally, I'd pass on the snake all together. Like grandpa always used to say "don't go borrowing (or buying) other people's problems".

i thought crap...someting isnt right. maybe they have had it like for a month, and it isnt eating..lets pass it off to someone else but lie about it type thing. i just am finding this all way to hard to believe but dont know what to conclude from it all. I mean I would rather see it taken care of then left if these peoples hands.

Just make sure you are set up to take in a rescue should you choose to do so. I'd say some of the tools of that trade would be a can of Provent-a-mite, antibiotic ointment, access to a good vet, etc. Honestly, I've taken in a few "rescue" status animals over the years and most have turned out to be awesome animals. Its amazing how well some bounce back with just the right care and no extra effort beyond that. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

I wouldn't pay her a dime for it. If you feel up to taking it as a rescue fine, but for her to offer something up for sale like that.. no way.

Burms are typically born 18-24" long. Either it is NOT a burm, or your size estimation is way off. Burms grow incredibly fast.. though I don't know what would happen if you were to starve it like it sounds like this one is. My male is 11 months old and around 6'+ long.
