    2 RETF dead :(
two of my four red eyed tree frogs died. i couldn't even find one of the them (a larger one) and one of the small ones was dried up. i was really disappointed today when i did a big clean of my viv...

if both small ones had died, i could understand it, but one of each? and they were all very similar in size (just a tiny little bit bigger than the smaller ones) when i first got them (picked them up all at once and they are captive bred)

now the larger one is almost 2 inches and the small one is less than an inch :( i don't know how to get the small one to grow bigger... except to keep feeding it pinhead crickets and hoping it grows.

    anyone with experience and suggestions?

    Awww, Aleesha...

I can't help you with your question, but I'm sorry to hear about your frogs dying. :( :tears:

I hope you're able to find the answers you need and that the remaining frog(s) thrive.

ya i was talking to a friend at the petstore i used to work at. she had no ideas either :(

man it sucks when a pet dies... and sucks just a little bit more when you pay $50 a piece for them...

(thanks for those hugs... i loooooove em!)

i'm very sorry to hear about your froggies. that is exactly what has happened to me every time i got red eyes in the past. every time i have gotten them it has been two at a time and every time one dies and one thrives. they are always quarantined from the other frogs, and receive the exact same care but it always happens. i have just come to accept that this must be what people mean when they say that red eyes are delicate--because really once established they seem to flourish as long as they are given proper conditions--which isn't that difficult either. maybe it is the stress of being at a show or shipping or just a new environment and they don't handle stress well, i'm not really sure, but i don't think you did anything wrong. for the smaller one, just keep feeding it and watching it for signs that anything might be wrong. it is possible that the larger one is a female and the smaller is a male, in which case, the male will stay smaller than the female--quite a bit smaller in most cases.

    oh that is definitely possible.

i'm not blaming myself... as i'm giving them everything i believe they need... and caring for them diligently... but with so many plants i didn't realize i was missing one (the other one was very recently dead - i figure only a day or two) - cause we all know how hard they can be to find! i've been looking right at them sometimes and can't see them LOL

i was feeding enough for all four regardless and all the crickets were getting eaten so... ??? i don't know.

ever try giving them some silkworms? most red eyes can learn to eat out of a dish or cup of sorts so that might be worth a try...
