Is it ok to house 2 BP's in the same tank after they have matured?

No.

Snakes are not social, and do not like sharing their space with another. Cannibalism, though rare, does occur.

Normally one will become dominant over the other. they may look like they're 'cuddling' but they're just competing for the best spots in the cage. The less dominant one may stop eating, and at least will be stressed.

Keeping them together allows them to pass diseases and parasites to each other as well.

you're going to get this from everyone....one snake, one cage. Run a search for this topic and read some of the huge threads that have happened in the past, it can open eyes.

I will seperate them asap. some people i've met locally, house certain species together, but to heck with that!!

That was the easiest convincing that has EVER had to be done on separating snakes! Nice job April!

They are both around 3 years old and i haven't had any problems

How many of you have 2 or more together?

Before I came here, I did the same exact thing as you, for 5 years. They seemed fine for a long time! I came here because it seemed that my male was stressed, not getting water although it was available, and they were always coiled tightly around eachother. They would fight over food, too. My male developed a RI infection and stopped eating and shedding. They both just weren't growing like I wanted, either.


After hundreds of dollars, my male is in the original 55 gallon tank (spoiled brat) eating every week, shedding, and growing. My female is in my rack with all the other tubs, again thriving quite nicely.

They may "seem" fine, but they can't talk to you and tell you how things are really going. They only way you'll know is when they can pysically show you, like when they get sick or even worse, die.

I am so happy and forever gratefuls that I came here as they saved my snake's life. These people will help you with any questions you may have, and make you a snakie expert!

Good story Ginger and certainly convincing! I have 3 BPs that were always kept together. One of the males was WAY smaller than the other 2. I separated them immediately and his weight has doubled. They aren't social creatures and don't want to be with other snakes other than during breeding. Our need to anthropomorhize sometimes takes over when it shouldn't.
