Explain Pastels

hi everyone

i understand a little bit about mrphs. I understand about albinos mixed with nomals and getting hets, but i don't understand how pastels work. i am currently looking into buying a pair of pastels but I don't know how the genetics work. What will a pair of pastels produce?

Though a FYI, people dont normally refer to pastels as het, or homozygous.



1 pastel gene = Pastel
2 pastel genes = Super Pastel


Though I guess you could say Super pastel and het for super pastel.

Kinda like how people say Ivory, and het for Ivory, instead of yellow bellies or goblin markers: )

Another question, in order to be successful in breeding pastels with 2 genes, they have to be from completely different family lines right? They can't be related whatsoever I mean.

Related snakes are bred together all the time. When you bring in one new morph from the wild, the only way to get more is to breed the offspring to each other and/or back to their parent. Obviously, if you can get two unrelated bloodlines, that is the best way to go, but there is nothing inherently wrong with breeding sibs or offspring.
