Katie just noticed this on Pepper (the dog)....she has 3 of them around the same area...

That looks like wonderful and tenacious RINGWORM. Get the dog to the vet for a few baths in an antifungal shampoo or treat the spots(and the entire body) with Clotrimizole or Lotrimin cream(found at WalMart).

You will probably get it too if you sleep with the dog(or just come in contact with her or the places she is... Ok, so you're going to get it...), so look out for spots that are similar looking. Get the Lotrimin or Tonalftate cream, that will take care of it. It spreads fairly rapidly if not treated soon enough and can become a systemic infection.

Clean everything and I cannot stress this enough. The fungal spores are wherever the dog has been. So if you have a backyard, I would make up a 5-10% bleach solution and put the bleach in a hose sprayer and douse the yard.

I would treat the cat as well. If you have chlorhexidine shampoo or the solution(for cleaning cages), make up a gallon and bathe them in it. Pour it on and let it dry.

PS: What are you treating the animals with for fleas and ticks? Frontline? It could also be a tick bite that has turned into Lyme disease. Has the dog had all of her shots including the Lyme Disease vaccination? Do you see ticks at all?

It does not really look like ringworm to me...more like a bite of some kind (notice the small red dot in the center)...

What does Lyme Disease signs look like for dogs? We have tons of ticks in the area but Lyme Disease is very rare (only 7 cases in LA in the last 10 years). I pulled two off me and one off her one day after a walk in the woods, but no real problems since. She is treated with Frontline each month.

She is getting a vet appointment first thing in the morning....so I guess we will findout then.

Since they are all near where she touches the ground when she squats to urinate....could it be some kinda bug bite?

I have had ringworm before....and been bit by tons of bugs.....I just don't know the way that it is supposed to look on a dog

I think one of the symptoms of Lyme disease is a red circle around the bite wound from a deer tick. Although deer ticks are pretty small, I think you would notice one. What about chiggers? Do they leave a red circle, or just a red, itchy area?

I agree, looks like ring worm. Have seen it many times on young children and dogs several years ago. I believe your vet can give you a good topical solution for it.

My first throughts were ringworm too. Bleh. :bleh: Although why they call it that is beyond me. :rolleyes:

im saying lyme disease. i was researching lyme disease the other day because i found a tick on me when i was field herping. that's exactly what it looked like and im pretty sure that red dot in the middle is a classic symptom of lyme disease.

They call it ring worm because it grown in a ring. like mushrooms must fungus are in rings.
