    Hiss!
Wow, so tonight i was about to take gem out. I decided to clean her water bowl, so afterwards, the bowl was a little hot from the hot water, so i put the bowl in her cage, I then proceded to take the hide off from on top of her, and once i get the hide off, i hear this LOUD hissing.

Haha, it spooked the heck out of me, heh.

    I didn't think BP's hissed much.

my male, zulu, got mad one time and hissed really loudly. i was afraid he was gonna bite me but he actually has never attempted biting me. sometimes when they come out at night i can hear them "talk". kinda a quiet, short hiss when they are cruisin about their tubs.

Yeah, I never heard the hiss with my original 2 BP's. But when I got my het albinos (i heard they have attitude!) i was very, very suprised by the noise that came out of them! They puff all up and use all the energy they can to make that "hiss"!

You can't help but find it cute though :aww:

Hehe, it freaked my wife out, but it cracks me up :). They fill their lungs with air, and you can see them holding it, waiting... waiting, then if you move near them. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssss like a leaking baloon.

then PUFF back up, and at it again.

I don't provoke her, but when im cleaning she makes sure to let me know she doesnt appreciate it. Ive never had one strike at me that was hissing, it seems like either they strike to intimidate, or they hiss to intimidate.

It's funny how universal hissing is, I know cats, snakes, and probably some other animals do it :)

so will bp hiss to comunicate sometimes or only when trying to intimidate. I have two bp's and I think it might be cool to hear them "talk" unless it means theyre aggitated.

Even cockatiels (and other parrots) hiss.. I find that more scary than most snake hisses!

My doves hiss at me when I look at their eggs.. but they just make me laugh, they're not scary. :)

I thought Gomez was hissing at me once when it was really our cockatiel sitting on the cage next to his, lol. Took me a second. Funny when little birds do it, especially softbills, but I'd be backing *way* up if a macaw or cockatoo was hissing at me!

Getting used to lots of hissing with Neptune around though. I swear, when you try to pick that boy up it sounds like someone's turning on a malfunctioning fire hose!
